I Want to Live Fully Alive

I spent 16 weeks down with back surgery, a 4 inch open wound at the base of my spine. There wasn't much I could do except choose was my attitude. It seems that it is easier to choose a good attitude when you have a big medical or other emergency. It is harder to chose that attitude in the day to day struggles.

When I was in high school, I was fully alive. Of course, medically speaking, I was also not quite right in the head. I have this over romanticized view of what happened then and in my early twenties. I WAS ALIVE! Mania does that to a person.

But, it leaves me with this constant itching, that I am not quite doing all that I am supposed to be doing. I am not grabbing life by the horns and manhandling it into oblivion. Of course I want more. I want to feel like everything is brand new, amazing, wonderful. But, I am old. Seriously. I am tired all the time and my body hurts. I guess it is true that youth is wasted on the young. Maybe if I go off my meds....

I love this song and not just for the words. There is this part in the chorus where the guitars in the background play off beat on the down stroke and not in time with her singing. Musically it is brilliant. As I often am with this album, I am amazed that this was their first, and they were so young.
