One of the reasons I like Christian Rock is that for the most part, I don;t have to worry about the lyrics. I can't tell you how many times I hear people singing songs from the radio and they are not listening to the lyrics as they sing them. I once heard a five yr old singing Lil' Wayne's lollipop and his mother had no ideas what it meant. what a brain dead, loser, stupid song.

Every once in a while, a Christian group I love, sing lyrics I have a hard time with, but it is not that I don't agree with them. Its just I don't talk that way. The vocabulary they use is just different from mine. Songs like Children 18:3's Bethlehem or Flyleaf's Beautiful Bride or Lacey Sturm's Vanity / Rot. All are great songs, don't get me wrong, Lacey's Vanity / Rot is one of the most powerful songs I have every heard. It is just not in my vocabulary to talk in that vernacular.

For the last three decades, ever since I was shown the actual lyrics to relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood I have tried to read all the lyrics and understand the song before I buy it. I still do it with Christian Rock. It is just easier and with the bands I like, I have found that there isn't much to worry about. It is safe here

Anberlin - Safe Here

Later that day we made our way to the old cathedral door A flame, a figure, a shadow Walked away towards the tower alone We must be close nearby Hope cannot find our own way Through dark, it's cold, I'm told it's gray There's a light that never grows dim But if all can be made right there's still a chance on New Years' Day And if Grace were here I would love to see her face somehow, someway And if all is well that means there's still a chance in hell You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine There is shelter, shelter from the mire of life Claiming sanctuary from the fire that drove you in You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine Climbing the stairs towards heaven Making our own way into the room Empty, barren Not another soul in sight Then when the moon came crawling There in the night, a great divide A whisper, a motion, calling We're the 99 all right But if all can be made right there's still a chance on New Years' Day And if all is well that means there's still a chance in hell You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine There is shelter, shelter from the mire of life Claiming sanctuary from the fire that drove you in You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine Now a tradition said Buying penance did a wrong and right A great collapse Great collapse You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine There is shelter, shelter from the mire of life Claiming sanctuary from the fire that drove you in You are safe here, safe here in these arms of mine
